This five-year-old home is located on a deep lot with a wonderful view of woods to the rear.  The existing home did not take advantage of this amenity due to its Garage location and the limited windows in the existing Den.

The program called for a new Rear Entry, Keeping Room, Covered Porch and Master Bedroom.  The Garage was converted into a new entry and Keeping Room with a large triple window facing the rear yard.  This provided views from the existing Kitchen.  The Keeping Room floor stepped down from the Breakfast Room to allow for a taller ceiling and also to provide for a better transition to the rear yard.  A Gallery was added to the rear of the existing Den to allow for better circulation within the house and to organize the three sets of double doors and skylights.  New heated construction totaled approximately 1040 square feet.

The three doors now open to a large covered porch with bead board ceiling, bar area and Rumford fireplace.  The homeowners enjoy this outdoor room in all seasons.  It also provides privacy while allowing for sweeping views of the woods beyond.  This Porch is also accessible from the new Master Bedroom.   Unheated porch areas totaled a little over 700 square feet.

The existing Master bedroom, which was located on the front of the house, can now be used for a sitting area or nursery.  The existing Master Bath was unaltered with the exception of changing a window to a door.  Part of this Master Suite renovation was an added walk-in closet to allow for His and Hers separate closets.  A large bay window provides a sitting area within this Master Suite to supply morning light and a great view to the rear yard. 

The new Rear Terrace steps down again for the Covered Porch and accommodates outdoor dining and grilling.  The grill is conveniently located off of the new Laundry Room which doubles as a second kitchen prep area with sink and full-sized refrigerator.
