Home Builders Association of Charlotte
Excellence In Remodeling 2013 – Silver Award Winner Additions 160 ~ 280K
This young family moved to Charlotte recently and selected a modest 50’s style Ranch. While the home did not provide the desired space for their growing family, the neighborhood was highly desirable. It had many homes that had undergone extensive modification or were presently in the process of being modified or expanded. The purchase price of the Ranch allowed latitude for major expansion without overpricing the property for the neighborhood.
The plan was to convert the Ranch to a two story Tudor style with the addition of 1175 square feet heated area. The footprint of the first floor did not increase in size but the interior wall arrangement was substantially revised to allow for a more open floor plan and larger rooms. The elimination of one bedroom from the main floor allowed for the introduction of a generous master suite as well as an enlarged kitchen and family room. The second floor has three finished bedrooms with the possibility of finishing and additional one in the future.
The carport was essentially unchanged except for the trim required to integrate it with the Tudor style of the revised front elevation. The carport can be easily converted into a garage in the future.
A large and private back yard featured a generously sized patio. The patio was remodeled and lighted with appropriate lamps to provide a pleasant view from the family room and breakfast room.
